what do you actually say when the hotel front desk asks who's coming up

this is the part nobody explains 😂 booked everything fine, but then the front desk called my room to say someone was coming up and asked who it was. just froze. said "a friend." they were completely fine with it but i was sweating. is there a normal answer people use or is it always just awkward improv
