first time doing this in japan - what actually surprised you

i had a whole idea of what it would be like going in. the reality was different in ways i didn't expect, not bad just different 🤔 curious what other first timers noticed that caught them off guard. not looking for reviews just. the general vibe vs expectation gap. anyone remember their first time being nothing like what they imagined
